Question:

According to an article that was recently published by Exploding Topics, and is posted below, there are only 10.9% of women that hold senior leadership roles within the tech industry. You currently hold a senior leadership role at Bintel. What meaningful lessons or experiences have you had while being a leading voice for women in the industry?

Answer:

Diversity is important because it allows companies to benefit from a variety of life experiences and perspectives and there is a clear difference in the perspectives that people bring to the table. What makes people different is what enables organizations to make better decisions and serve individuals more effectively. It is crucial to regularly check in with people, particularly women and minorities within the company, to understand and address any potential issues. Having worked in environments where I have been treated differently, I am acutely aware of the subtleties inherent in workplace dynamics.

Working in the tech industry as a woman you are automatically at an advantage.  You are there, so make the most of it.  If others are negative or dismiss you, ignore them and keep going. Technology moves at such a rapid pace, enjoy where you’re at and don’t always get caught up in the future, now is pretty good, too.

There is a great article that was just published, 74+ Shocking Women In Tech Statistics (2023), which states that women currently hold only 26.7%of tech-related jobs and the percentage of women in all tech-related careers has actually decreasedover the last 2 years. Within the tech industry, there is gender inequality, a lack of equal pay and the percentage of women pursuing STEM subjects in higher education is on the decline. With these statistics, women currently working and studying in the tech industry must break this barrier and become the change that is needed to pave the way for more women to succeed in this industry.

Feel free to reach out to any of us with any questions you may have about working in tech. (Our names on our bios are linked to our LinkedIn pages.)

Happy Women’s History Month :)
